China is building a mothership capable of carrying and recovering large underwater drones. Imagery of a vessel under construction at Shanghai's Hudong-Zhonghua shipyard shows an internal hangar and a stern handling arrangement, with the structure interpreted as a lowering cradle supported by 12 vertical arms and possible accommodation for 4 extra-extra-large unmanned underwater vehicles.

The structure behind the stern also appears narrow enough to pass through the opening, while the space inside may lack a conventional floor, strongly suggesting a recovery function for the platform. It is not established which drones the ship would carry, nor whether the arrangement has been tested at sea.
